The summer editions of the First Sunday Arts Festival (FSAF) will delight arts & crafts lovers of Annapolis during Summer 2021. The Chesapeake Bay’s best street arts festival and most charming arts & crafts show has been entertaining locals on the first Sunday of every month from May to November since 2002.

Annapolitans love spending a pleasant Sunday in their arts district taking in the sights and sounds of this wonderful festival. You can buy the creations of more than 130 artists and craftspeople from around the region. Live entertainment is also one of the highlights. In addition to actors performing, musicians sing and play their instruments as you walk streets closed off to traffic.

Background

The First Sunday Arts Festival was founded in 2002 after two popular art receptions held at the 49 West Coffeehouse and ARTFX galleries became so popular that guests began spilling onto the sidewalks and streets outside. Businesses on West Street gradually began participating and the street festival mushroomed into events that lasted all Sunday.

Due to needed improvements, West Street was closed to traffic for a prolonged period in 2003, and FSAF spread out onto the streets. By the time construction was completed, the event became so popular that West Street was officially closed on the first Sunday of every month from May through October.

Fast forward to 2008, when FSAF again needed more room to feature new vendors and allow many more attendees. As a result, Whitemore Park on Calvert Street was used to expand the festival’s range. This expansion eventually became inadequate so the area on the corner of West and Calvert Streets beneath the trees was added in 2009.

Schedule & Location

Each summer edition of the FSAF is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. First Sunday Arts Festival events welcome people of all ages, and admission is free. Located at the intersection of Calvert Street and West Street, the festival is a celebration of creativity held in the heart of the arts district of Annapolis.
