Beautifully located on the Chesapeake Bay and Severn River, Annapolis is known worldwide for sailing and other water sports. However, some locals prefer their sporting activities on solid ground. They like it even better if the ball is not moving when they hit it! Well, the subject must be golf, and so the following covers some of the public golf courses within 10 miles of Annapolis.

Bay Hills Golf Club

Located only eight miles away in Arnold, Maryland, Bay Hills Golf Club boasts bent-grass tiered greens and wide fairways of zoysia grass. Constructed on the coastal hills of Maryland, Bay Hills requires precision on almost every shot to attain a level lie on most holes or otherwise land on rolling terrain.

Opened in 1969, Bay Hills was designed by Ed Ault, a golf course architect who left his mark on many a countryside. The dress code mandates collared shirts and no cut-off shorts.

Severna Park Golf Center

Just seven miles away from Annapolis, Severna Park offers a nice 9-hole par-3 golf course in Arnold, Maryland. Opened in 1972, the course was designed by golf architect George Reich. His longest tees give linksters 896 yards of golfing green for a par-27.

For golfers serious about technical aspects, a Toptracer Range is available to improve their games. This revolutionary sporting technology can provide important insights about every shot a golfer drives onto the green or rough.

Eisenhower Golf Course

About seven miles away in Crownsville, Maryland, the Eisenhower Golf Course was also designed by Ed Ault. Recently renovated, the fairways and greens are now in first-class turf condition, all to USGA specifications. Traditional sand traps also have been replaced by tricky knolls.

Situated in woodlands of 220 acres, the fairways feature forest buffers, and water hazards will challenge every golfer. Called “Ike” tees after the great late president, they measure from 4,792 yards from the forward tees to 7,164 yards from the back. Collared shirts are required by the dress code.
