As covered in Part 1, there are plenty of waterways in Annapolis and other parts of Arundel County that are canoeing and kayaking friendly. Part 2 will discuss Truxtun Park, Ellen O. Moyer Nature Park at Back Creek, and Other Paddling Places in Anne Arundel County.

Truxtun Park

A wonderful facility for canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and boating, Truxtun Park has a boat ramp available to the public all year from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. A floating dock for canoers and kayakers makes it easier to board their boats. Spanning 80 acres, Truxtun Park is the main city park of Annapolis. Intended to be enjoyed by all ages, the park has picnic areas, hiking trails, a skate park, and playgrounds.

Ellen O. Moyer Nature Park at Back Creek

This park bordering Back Creek is considered by many locals to be the ideal place for canoeing and kayaking in Annapolis. This park is family friendly, and a day spent with your loved ones will make a day there memorable.

The Annapolis Maritime Museum did a wonderful job renovating this 12 acre park, and the organization is responsible for its management and maintenance. The park offers family memberships that will allow you to paddle there all year round.

The public can use the boat launch at the facility. Visitors can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards by the hour. Keep in mind that the annual July 4th Paddle will attract a big crowd.

Other Paddling Places in Anne Arundel County

Numerous rivers, creeks, and lakes in Anne Arundel County are waiting to be explored by paddling. Many facilities allow you to launch a canoe or kayak to enjoy a wonderful day on the water close to nature. Please check the facility’s website or call to confirm whether a permit is needed for the dock. In addition, some facilities will only rent motorboats and sailboats to visitors.
