Paddling allows you to be right next to the water, gets your body moving, and gives you control of the rudder. If you have seen kayaking and canoeing in Annapolis Harbor, you know that the paddlers must be careful because large motorboats are all around, and some of them are speeding past.
Luckily, there are plenty of waters in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County that are much safer for canoes and kayaks. Below will cover the best places in Annapolis and the surrounding area to paddle your way to adventure.
Quiet Waters Park
Many visitors consider Quiet Waters the most beautiful park in Annapolis. The scenic facility host weddings, and an art gallery displays the work of local artists. For those who love paddling, there are canoes, kayaks, row boats, pedal boats, sailboats, rowing shells, and stand up paddleboards for rent. You cannot bring your own vessel. Open every day except Tuesday, the cut off for renting a boat is 5 p.m.
Atlantic Marina at Ferry Point
There are beautiful views of the serene Magothy River at Ferry Point in Arnold, which is about 10 minutes away from Annapolis. The Atlantic Marina provides an atmosphere that’s fun for the whole family. Visitors can dine at The Point Crab House & Grill, an enjoyable bar and restaurant right on the water.
Trees line both banks of the Magothy here, making the river’s waters peaceful because there’s less wind. This makes a day of kayaking and canoeing soothing and relaxing. Bring your own boats because rentals are not available.
Part 2 will cover Truxtun Park, Ellen O. Moyer Nature Park at Back Creek, and Other Paddling Places in Anne Arundel County
