Gung-ho Navy football fans can’t wait until the first game after last season’s stellar record of 11-2. The Middies finished in second place in the American Athletic Conference West Division with a record of 7-1. They capped the season by beating Kansas State University 20-17 in the Liberty Bowl.

Bringing in Defensive Coordinator Brian Newberry last season paid dividends, and he is coming back for 2020. Offensive Coordinator Ivin Jasper returns for his 21st season with the Middies staff. Head Coach Ken Niumatalolo is going into his 13th full season with an overall record of 98-60.

Filled with fighting spirit, the Midshipmen always bring their traditions and storied history to each game. Navy has 1 national championship, 2 Heisman Trophy Winners, 3 head coaches and 19 players in the College Football Hall of Fame, and Bill the Goat as their ever-faithful mascot.

Notre Dame – September 5

The Fighting Irish also finished 11-2 last season, topping Iowa State 33-9 in the Camping World Bowl to end the season and earning a No. 12 AP ranking. Notre Dame holds an overwhelming 66-9-win-loss record against the Midshipmen.

Former ND quarterback Tommy Rees is making his debut as Fighting Irish Offensive Coordinator in 2020. Head Coach Brian Kelly is now in his 11th season. Team Captain and starting quarterback Ian Book is returning for his senior season.

Temple University – September 14

Navy’s first AAC conference game will be an interesting contest against the Temple University Owls, which finished third in the East Division last year. Second-year Head Coach Rod Carey enters the season with an overall record of 60 wins and 35 losses.

The Owls finished 8-5 last season, ending the season with a humiliating 55-13 loss against North Carolina in the Military Bowl, which is held in Annapolis. Carey is now 0-7 in bowl games. However, the Owls have won the last three games against the Middies.
